I began my incredible journey into midwifery in 2007 with the birth of my first child, Noah. Giving birth was one of the hardest things I've ever done but it was also the most rewarding experience of my life. That moment was the strongest I had ever felt in my life and I knew I had been changed.
My background in medicine was as a combat medic in the United States Army and EMT-B so the decision to become a midwife required a lot of thought and prayer. After my second home birth in 2010, I knew it was what God was calling me to do. I finished my Biology degree at the University of Texas at San Antonio and started my apprenticeship with the incredible Amber Riedel, CPM, LM at The Family Birth Center in New Braunfels. In August of 2013 I took the National American Registry of Midwives exam to obtain my Certified Professional Midwife (CPM) and subsequent licensing from the state of Texas (LM).
I am so thrilled to be where I am today. I thank God for writing my journey for me and guiding me every step of the way, even if I’m fighting it. I’m grateful for the children God has trusted to be in my care: Bryant, Noah, Emily, and Abby. They are the most precious gift I could have ever been given.

My name is Brittney Cole and I am a student midwife at Family Birth Center in New Braunfels, TX. I was led to birth work by my older sister who is also a midwife in New Braunfels! The very first birth I attended (other than my own), was my oldest niece giving birth to my great nephew at the birth center I am now training at. As a mom, I had care under an OB that I thought was "just fine." After the fact, I learned the ways that my care was simply cookie cutter and I realized that had I been under the care of a midwife, I may have been able to prevent some of the complications that I experienced. This is a major driving force in my desire to help women walk this path. When you are seen and heard as an individual versus another number, big things can happen. I also struggled with postpartum depression after having my son. The resources I received from my care provider were abysmal and it is my goal to help other women like me walk that journey and know that they are not alone.
